Cold wind outside, heating on inside… and your skin feels every bit of it.
When the weather turns, a homemade face mask is one of the easiest little rituals you can give yourself. No fancy ingredients, no complicated steps. Just a bowl, a spoon, and ten quiet minutes.
Here are 4 cosy face masks you can make tonight, with ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.
Before you start
- Patch test first. Try a little of the mask on your inner arm and wait 24 hours, especially if you've never used an ingredient on your skin before.
- Make it fresh. These masks use fresh food ingredients, so mix only what you need and use it straight away. Don't store leftovers.
- Keep it away from your eyes, and rinse off with lukewarm water, not hot.
1. The Honey & Oat Mask: a comforting treat
This is the mask to make when your skin needs a little comfort.
You'll need:
- 1 tablespoon finely ground oats
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1–2 teaspoons warm water or milk
How to make it: grind the oats into a fine powder in a blender or with a pestle. Mix in the honey, then add the water or milk a little at a time until you have a soft, spreadable paste. Apply to clean skin, leave for 10 minutes, then rinse gently, massaging in small circles as the oats give a very soft exfoliation.
2. The Creamy Yogurt Mask: for a soft, smooth feel
Cool, creamy and incredibly simple.
You'll need:
- 2 tablespoons plain, unflavoured yogurt
- 1 teaspoon honey
How to make it: stir the honey into the yogurt until smooth. Apply a thin layer, relax for 10 minutes, and rinse with lukewarm water. Your skin will feel soft and fresh.
Tip: use yogurt with no added sugar or flavourings.
3. The Simple Avocado Mask: a rich, nourishing moment
Got half an avocado left over? This one's for you.
You'll need:
- ¼ ripe avocado
- 1 teaspoon honey
- a few drops of olive or sweet almond oil (optional)
How to make it: mash the avocado until completely smooth, with no lumps, then mix in the honey and oil. Spread it on generously, leave for 10–15 minutes, and rinse off. It's rich, creamy and perfect for a cold evening.
4. Our Favourite Weekend Mask: for a proper pamper night
This is the one we save for Sunday evenings, with a candle lit and phone on silent.
You'll need:
- 1 tablespoon kaolin clay
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 teaspoon plain yogurt
- a little water, if needed
How to make it: mix the clay with the honey and yogurt, adding a few drops of water until it's smooth and easy to spread. Apply a thin layer and leave for 10 minutes. Don't let it dry out completely and crack. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your favourite moisturiser or a homemade body butter.
Make it a full evening
A face mask is even better as part of a little spa night. Run a warm bath, add a homemade bath bomb, and give yourself one evening that's just for you.
